Nutrition
Steps (6 steps)
Soak dried tofu skin sheets in warm water for about 10 minutes until fully softened. Drain well.
In a small bowl, combine light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sugar, five-spice powder, vegetarian oyster sauce and water, stir until sugar dissolves.
Spread the soaked tofu sheets flat, brush both sides evenly with the sauce. Stack them neatly.
Tightly roll the sheets from one side into a cylinder, wrap firmly with kitchen twine to hold shape.
Place the roll in a steamer over boiling water, steam on high heat for 30 minutes until cooked and fragrant. Remove.
Let the roll cool completely, then remove twine and slice into 0.5cm thick rounds.
Tips
Roll the tofu sheets as tightly as possible to prevent them from falling apart when sliced. Cooling completely before slicing gives cleaner cuts.
