Spicy Dried Tofu
A classic spicy and numbing cold appetizer. Dried tofu strips soak up the mouthwatering sauce, offering a chewy texture and bold flavors.
Ingredients
10 items- Dried tofu (five-spice) 400g
- Light soy sauce 2 tbsp
- Chinese black vinegar 1 tbsp
- Chili oil 2 tbsp
- Ground Sichuan peppercorns 1 tsp
- Sugar 1 tsp
- Salt 1/2 tsp
- Garlic 3 cloves
- Cilantro 2 sprigs
- Toasted white sesame seeds 1 tbsp

Cut dried tofu into 0.5 cm strips. Blanch in boiling water for 1 minute, then drain. This removes bean odor and improves texture.
In a small bowl, combine light soy sauce, black vinegar, chili oil, ground Sichuan pepper, sugar, salt, and minced garlic. Stir well to make the spicy sauce.
Place drained tofu in a large bowl, pour over the sauce, and toss well to coat evenly.
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes to marinate, stirring once if possible.
Remove from fridge, sprinkle with cilantro and white sesame seeds, toss, and serve.
Tips
For extra heat, add chopped fresh chili to the sauce; ensure tofu is well-drained after blanching to help sauce cling.
