Roasted Lotus Root Slices
Crispy on the outside and tender inside, these roasted lotus root slices are spicy and delicious, with a unique flavor enhanced by roasting.

- Cooking oil 2 tablespoons
- Salt 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin powder 1 teaspoon
- Chili powder 1 teaspoon
- Light soy sauce 1 tablespoon
- White sesame seeds 1 tablespoon
- Chopped green onions to taste

Peel and slice the lotus root into 0.5 cm thick rounds, then soak in water for 5 minutes to remove excess starch; drain well.
Place drained slices in a bowl, add oil, salt, cumin, chili powder, and soy sauce. Mix well and marinate for 10 minutes.
Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking tray with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
Arrange the marinated lotus root slices in a single layer on the tray; brush with a little extra oil to prevent sticking.
Roast in middle oven for 15 minutes, flip, then roast another 5 minutes until golden brown and edges are slightly crispy.
Remove from oven, sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve immediately.
Tips
The key to perfect roasted lotus root is even slicing and sufficient marinating. Adjust roasting time based on your oven; soak slices to remove starch for a crisper texture.
