Macau Baked Steak
A classic Macau Portuguese-style dish featuring tender steak baked with rich cheese and spices, golden brown and aromatic.

- Ketchup 3 tablespoons
- Mozzarella cheese 100g
- Butter 30g
- Light soy sauce 1 tablespoon
- Dark soy sauce 1 teaspoon
- Cooking wine 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt to taste

Cut beef sirloin into 1.5 cm thick pieces, pound to 1 cm thick with a meat tenderizer. Mix with light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, cooking wine, black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Marinate for 15 minutes.
Slice onion and green bell pepper; shred mozzarella cheese and set aside.
Heat a frying pan over high heat, add olive oil until shimmering. Sear steak for about 30 seconds per side until lightly charred, locking in juices. Transfer to a baking dish.
In the same pan, add butter over medium heat. Sauté onion and green pepper for about 2 minutes until soft and translucent. Add ketchup and stir well. Remove from heat.
Spread the sautéed onion and pepper mixture evenly over the steak, then top with shredded mozzarella cheese, covering most surfaces.
Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F) with top and bottom heat. Place baking dish on upper middle rack and bake for 8-10 minutes until cheese melts and turns golden brown.
Remove from oven, carefully transfer the steak to a serving plate with a spatula. Garnish with parsley or roasted vegetables if desired. Serve immediately.
Tips
Choose beef tenderloin or sirloin; pounding and scoring helps tenderize. Sear over high heat to lock in juices; ensure oven is fully preheated for even browning of cheese.
